(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — The 10th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) led by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that started as stolen car chase in Monument.
According to PCSO, on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at around 3:30 p.m. in Monument, officers with the Monument Police Department (MPD) got a report that a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado truck had just been stolen. MPD located the vehicle using OnStar, and followed it on I-25 into Colorado Springs. MPD coordinated with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and Fountain Police Department (FPD) to stop the suspect.
CSP was notified about the stolen car at around 3:45 p.m., and minutes later, a CSP aircraft unit found the truck traveling south of Colorado Springs. The aircraft followed the truck into Pueblo County, where CSP troopers set up north of Pueblo and prepared to disable the truck using a grappler device.
CSP began a pursuit of the truck when the suspect left I-25 at Exit 108 and drove west on Purcell Boulevard. CSP continued to follow the truck and attempted to deploy the grappler device, when the suspect fired a gun at least once from the vehicle. Troopers and deputies followed the truck at a safe distance when the suspect drove off into a field near the intersection of Purcell and Fairbanks Drive.
The truck stalled in the field and the suspect allegedly fired additional shots. An MPD officer, who had initially followed the suspect from Monument, returned fire. The suspect was injured, and law enforcement agencies along with Pueblo West Fire Department rendered medical aid before taking the suspect via helicopter to a Colorado Springs hospital.
The 10th Judicial CIRT will investigate the shooting.
