(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Get a glimpse back in time when you visit Rock Ledge Ranch at Garden of the Gods Park over the weekend of Saturday, June 21, and celebrate its 150th anniversary.
According to Elizabeth Borders, Historical Interpreter of Rock Ledge Ranch, the Chambers family came to Colorado Springs in 1874 for the health of one of their family members, seeking the dry climate and all the sunshine.
The 150th celebration event, beginning on Saturday at 10 a.m., will feature live music, food, crafts, and wagon rides. Just like the days of the Chambers’ Boarding House, the ranch will offer “crackers and milk” for 15 cents.
“So the Chambers family came to Colorado Springs in 1874 for Elsie’s health, like a lot of other people, they were seeking the dry climate and all the sunshine, hoping that she would feel better from whatever respiratory ailment she was suffering from. She recovered quickly, and they saw Rock Ledge Ranch as a place with a lot of water where they could start a fruit farm,” said Borders.
