Rockrimmon Interim Library to open in local church

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Following the closure of the Rockrimmon Library, a dedicated grassroots movement has come together to establish an all-volunteer interim library.

“Reading at the Rock: Rockrimmon Interim Library” will soon open at a space inside Christ the King Lutheran Church, located at 950 Vindicator Drive, near South Rockrimmon Boulevard.

Organizers with the Save Rockrimmon Library group say this new interim library and temporary home is a testament to the community’s need and commitment to literacy and access to resources on the northwest side of the city.

The donation of books has exceeded expectations and the effort has now shifted to organizing the collection.

On Saturday, Feb. 22, several volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help bring this community-driven vision to life.

“We’re storing books in hopes that we may have more shelves someday or possibly move to an interim next step,” said Karla Powers, Director of Save Rockrimmon Library. “But our main goal here is to wait until Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) will again have another library in this area.”

PPLD Board of Trustees permanently closed the Rockrimmon location in December, in what the board described as a “cost-cutting move.”

There is no information yet on when the interim library will open.
