Denver (KDVR) — A rockslide Saturday night has closed Boulder Canyon from the base of the canyon nearly to Nederland.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office reported the slide at 11 p.m. on X, saying it happened just below Boulder Falls. The canyon and Colorado Highway 119 is closed from the base to Hurricane Hill.
The Colorado Department of Transportation in a Sunday afternoon press release said the roadway will likely stay closed until Sunday evening.
CDOT crews are removing smaller rocks and debris and repair damaged asphalt. A geo-technical crew assessed the mountain side and ridgeline and verified the stability of the canyon wall early Sunday morning.
Large boulders reached the roadway covering both lanes of traffic, and specialized teams will work to remove them. FOX31’s Kasia Kerridge did a ride-along with CDOT crews to view the damaged road.
As of 12:30 p.m. Sunday, CDOT’s traffic map is still showing the roadway closed.
