Runaway truck causes driver to be hit by another car

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The driver of a vehicle was hit by another car after he was trying to stop his truck when it was rolling down the highway.

On Tuesday, March 18 at around 4:12 p.m., a box truck had a mechanical failure while on the southbound lane of I-25 at Centennial Boulevard. According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), the driver was outside of the truck when it began to roll southbound, striking two other southbound cars.

The driver, in an effort to catch the runaway truck, was running on the interstate and was hit by another car. The box’s truck momentum was stopped and blocked two lanes on I-25 shut down I-25 at Fillmore for an hour.

The driver of the truck was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

CSPD said all vehicles involved stayed at the scene. Multiple witnesses who witnessed the crash or stopped to render aid also remained on scene and provided investigators with information.

“The patience of the motorists having to navigate around the crash is appreciated,” CSPD wrote.
