Section of downtown to close for utility work

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The City of Colorado Springs said motorists will experience lane closures on Tejon Street for weeks while crews install two pipelines as part of the City’s Tejon Street Revitalization Project.

According to the City, from June 16-27, northbound and southbound Tejon St. between Colorado and Pikes Peak Avenues will be closed. From June 23 to July 2, Colorado Springs Utilities will relocate a natural gas main requiring the closure of southbound Tejon St. and the center lane from Kiowa Street to Pikes Peak Ave.

Between June 23-27, southbound Tejon St. will be closed between Kiowa and Colorado Avenues, and northbound Tejon St. will be open only between Kiowa Street and Pikes Peak Ave.

The City said additional impacts on June 23 to July 2 include:

Eastbound Pikes Peak Ave. between Cascade Avenue and South Tejon St. will be closed except to local traffic that needs access to the large parking lot, U.S. Bank, and businesses west of South Tejon St.

No street parking will be available on the west side of Tejon St., between East Kiowa St. and Pikes Peak Ave. Street parking will remain unavailable on Tejon St. between Pikes Peak and Colorado Avenues.

Westbound Pikes Peak Ave. will remain open from South Nevada Ave to South Cascade Ave.

The City is providing vouchers for two hours of free parking at the City’s three parking garages.

The City said the Tejon Street Revitalization Project expands outdoor dining areas and sidewalks with the goal of increasing public safety, pedestrian accessibility, and business activity.
