(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The fire that damaged the popular restaurant, Señor Manuel Mexican Cuisine, on Sunday, July 21, was unintentionally caused by an electrical malfunction, according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD).
CSFD reported that when crews arrived at the scene around 9 p.m., fire was coming from the roof and side of the building. A second alarm was called when the fire quickly spread through the attic. By about 9:45 p.m., the fire was under control, with no injuries reported.
CSFD Fire Investigators determined the cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction with a neon transformer, which is a device that increases the voltage to send electricity to power neon signs.
CSFD was the only fire agency to respond to the incident, with a total of 67 firefighters.
