Sheriff’s Office warns of phone scam in Fremont County

(FREMONT COUNTY, Colo.) — The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) is warning the public about a scam where the caller is claiming to be a deputy of the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies are getting reports from the public stating that they have received phone calls from a man claiming to be a deputy with FCSO. The man claims the person has a federal warrant for their arrest.

According to FCSO, the calls may appear as legitimate, with caller ID showing the FCSO office line of (719) 276-5555. FCSO said that the calls are a scam and to hang up if you receive one.

FCSO is telling the public that deputies will not call someone if they have a warrant out for their arrest, and deputies will not ask you to pay over the phone or buy gift cards to get the warrant cleared. Deputies said warrants like this are always in-person conversations that require you to see a judge.

If you have doubts about a caller, contact FCSO at (719) 276-5555, select option 8, and ask to speak with a supervisor.
