(CUSTER COUNTY, Colo.) — Locals in Custer County can head to the Wet Mountain Fire Protection District for some fresh corn after a semi truck hauling the produce overturned on Highway 69 north of Westcliffe.
According to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), around 2 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, deputies responded to a report of a semi truck rollover on Highway 69 just north of Reed Road, about 10 miles north of Westcliffe.
Thankfully, the semi truck’s driver was not injured; however, the semi truck lost a full load of ears of sweet corn.
CCSO said the sweet corn is being transported to the Wet Mountain Fire Protection District, located at 215 4th Street in Westcliffe. Community members can stop by the northwest corner of the fire station to pick up some sweet corn that is only a little bit road-flavored but otherwise perfectly edible.
CCSO said firefighters and posse members will be on scene to assist with getting the corn handed out to anyone who wants it. Community members who are interested in stopping by are asked not to block the fire truck bays while in the driveway.
Community members are asked to enter from the bridge driveway and exit near the saddle club.
