The reduced speed limit will run from I-25 to the intersection of Mesa Ridge Pkwy. and Powers Blvd. The new speed limit will be 45 MPH beginning Aug. 4.

“Lowering the speed limit on this busy section of highway will enhance safety conditions for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists,” said CDOT Regional Transportation Director Shane Ferguson.

CDOT has a list of important safety tips for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as more information about the speed limit reduction, here.

Drivers are urged to use caution and keep workers in mind with the continued construction along Powers Blvd.

CDOT recommends the following tips to ensure road safety:

Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.

Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.

Watch for workers. Drive with caution.

Don’t change lanes unnecessarily.

Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.

Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.

Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.

Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.

Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.

Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.

Be patient!
