Speeder faces 20-point ticket for going 103 mph on Powers, EPSO says

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — A driver is facing a mandatory court date and a nearly 20-point ticket after being caught driving 103 mph on North Powers Boulevard on Tuesday morning, June 10.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO), a deputy pulled over the driver before 7 a.m. on Powers between Barnes Road and North Carefree for driving 103 mph in a 55 mph zone. When deputies spoke to the driver, their excuse for driving nearly 50 miles over the speed limit was that they “dropped their can of chewing tobacco.”

EPSO said the driver was issued a ticket for speeding more than 40 mph over the speed limit and reckless driving. Combined, that equates to a 20-point ticket and a mandatory court date.

“Let this serve as a warning- it doesn’t matter the day or time. Our deputies are on the roads and if you choose to drive irresponsibly- we will pull you over and hold you accountable,” EPSO said.
