Stolen car found in Fort Collins day after theft

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said a car stolen in Colorado Springs was found in Fort Collins thanks to GPS tracking.

On Monday, Feb. 17, a CSPD officer was called to take a stolen vehicle report, and the officer learned the suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Justin Garcia, went into a Colorado Springs Verizon store asking for help with his Verizon account. When the employee went to speak with a manager about the situation, Garcia allegedly reached over the counter and stole the employee’s car keys, then left the store and took the employee’s car.

After CSPD was able to identify Garcia as the suspect, police learned the car had tracking capabilities and an arrest warrant was issued. One hour after the warrant was signed, the car’s tracking pinged to a location in Fort Collins. Fort Collins police found the car and arrested Garcia.
