Stolen item with GPS leads to arrest of robbery suspects

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — An item stolen during an armed robbery in Pueblo apparently had a working GPS tracker, which the Pueblo Police Department (PPD) said helped lead them to the suspects and eventually arrest them.

According to PPD, officers responded just before 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, on a report of an armed robbery at a business in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue, near the I-25/Pueblo Boulevard interchange.

The initial 911 call reported that a woman and a man came into the store armed with a gun and stole money and cartons of cigarettes. After leaving the store, they left the scene in a white four-door vehicle.

PPD said its dispatch center advised responding officers that a GPS device was taken with the stolen items, and the tracking information was then given to officers. The suspects were traced to the area of Beech Street and Ash Street, then to an alleyway near the 1700 block of Ash Street.

Eventually the suspect vehicle was seen southbound on Queens Avenue, and the suspects led police on a chase that lasted several minutes, PPD said. The suspects were arrested after they crashed into a fence at the corner of East 4th Street and Norwood Avenue.
