Students in the Pikes Peak Region getting easier access to college

(COLORADO) — Peak Education is partnering up with the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS), Colorado State University Pueblo (CSU Pueblo), Pikes Peak State College (PPSC), Western Colorado University, and Colorado Mesa University for a new program called the Direct Admission Initiative.

According to Peak Education, the goal is to “expand pathways to higher education for students in the Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak communities.”

The initiative aims to create a “regionally focused ecosystem” that connects students, families, counselors, and local colleges. It will admit high school seniors to the participating colleges based on their eligibility, without requiring a traditional application.

Students will only receive acceptance offers as part of this program. These offers will include “detailed program information, merit-based scholarship awards, and clear next steps,” according to the Peak Education press release.

Those behind the initiative hope it removes common barriers to higher education.

“This Direct Admission Initiative represents a transformative moment for our students in the Pikes Peak region. By removing the traditional application barriers and guaranteeing every participating student receives only acceptances, we’re fundamentally changing how our students see their futures,” said Carlos Jiménez, CEO of Peak Education, in a written statement to FOX21 News. “Knowing they’re admitted to quality institutions in the middle of senior year creates the confidence they need to pursue their dreams.”

According to Peak Education, students can begin the Match process at the start of their academic year. Admission offers will be delivered on Oct. 20. There are no fees to apply, and all students need is a high school transcript.
