Suspect arrested after person dies being thrown from car

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A suspect has been arrested after a person was thrown from a car and killed on Wednesday, April 17 on South Academy Boulevard.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), around 2 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, officers located a car suspected to be involved in the incident and tried to pull the driver over. The car did not stop and attempted to drive away, though officers were able to disable the car and force it to stop.

The driver of the car, identified as 33-year-old Nathaniel Buchmann, was wanted on a warrant for Robbery and Motor Vehicle Theft. On Thursday afternoon, an additional arrest warrant was obtained for Buchmann on Second Degree Murder charges, as well as new Vehicular Eluding charges.

The victim has not been identified. The El Paso County Coroner will determine the official cause and manner of death, though the death is being investigated as a homicide. This is the 12th homicide of 2024 in Colorado Springs. At this time in 2023, there were six homicides.
