(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Police officers and firefighters faced off in a friendly softball game at a Rocky Mountain Vibes event, with the firefighters emerging victorious with a score of 16-6.
The game, held for the first time, was designed to foster camaraderie and community interaction between the two groups of first responders. The event took place after a Rocky Mountain Vibes game, drawing enthusiastic support from fans who cheered loudly for their favorite heroes.
“Not that I’m biased or anything, but I have a feeling that PD is going to dominate this thing,” said Caitlin Ford, communications director of the Colorado Springs Police Department.
“We’re going to beat PD, we’re just better than them,” said Hunter Lindell, a firefighter with the Colorado Springs Fire Department.
The softball game featured five innings or one hour of play, whichever came first, and was marked by friendly banter between the teams. “If the fire department camped out on those any longer, they’d have recliners out there,” joked a police officer.
Despite the competitive spirit, the event was all in good fun, aiming to bring public servants closer to the community and each other. “For these officers and these firefighters to have a day where they get to interact through a positive means and then interact with our community in a positive way is just really great for, I think, everybody involved,” said Ford.
The firefighters secured bragging rights with their win, and Lindell noted, “I mean definitely it gives us a little street cred. Definitely feels good to beat PD.”
While the firefighters took home bragging rights, the event successfully highlighted the dedication of both departments to serving the community. “When we see them on calls, they’ll probably be hearing about it,” said Lindell, emphasizing the ongoing friendly rivalry.
