The Chuckwagon’s brick-and-mortar opens to a Texas-sized crowd

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Chuckwagon food truck is no longer the only place to get your hands on some delicious Texas barbeque. The Chuckwagon celebrated the grand opening of its brick-and-mortar location on Friday, May 17th, with loyal customers lined up and ready to eat!

“We definitely would not be where we are, opening the brick-and-mortar store, without the support of all these people,” owner Deidre Hammond expressed. “They come and line up, and we’re just in awe of it every day. Honestly, it’s still like pinch me.”

Jared and Deidre Hammond, natives of Texas, have brought their Lone Star spirit to Southern Colorado with The Chuckwagon, infusing their Texan heritage into every dish they serve.

When asked what makes the BBQ so good, Jared said, “You know, we are just following all the Texans’ rules. We are Texans creating Texas barbecue, and I think that’s kind of what makes it so special: it’s authentic. We’re not Texas-style. We are sixth-generation Texans who are creating what we grew up on our whole lives.”

Fans of the beloved food truck needn’t worry. Jared and Deidre Hammond have confirmed that the truck will still be around, and they are even considering stationing it in a different part of town to double the delight for their customers.

“We are actually looking for a permanent location for the food truck right now,” said Deidre. “We want to have somewhere to park it permanently and then hire a crew to run the food truck, hopefully on a different area of town. Or in a different area of town. Yeah. So that way, we can have like two locations that are possible to do,” Deidre noted during the grand opening event.”

“We’re here for the community. We are trying to be a part of this community as much as possible. We want to be a part of the economy. We really want to leave our mark here. And with the support that everybody has shown us, we couldn’t be more grateful,” shared Jared.

Chuckwagon’s new location is 6453 Omaha Boulevard off of Powers on the city’s east side. For updates on the business, follow them on Instagram @chuckwagon719 and on Facebook at The Chuckwagon 719.
