Three teens apprehended after allegedly stealing 7K in jewelry

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Two 18-year-olds and one 15-year-old were arrested after allegedly stealing $7,000 worth of jewelry.

At around 1 a.m. on Friday, July 4, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) Motor Vehicle Theft unit received a notification of a stolen gray 2013 Dodge Charger moving through the city. Detectives from Burglary and Theft units began surveilling the car near Woodmen Road and North Academy Boulevard.

While watching the car, police witnessed three individuals break into Jared Jewelers. The Tactical Enforcement Unit was summoned to the area due to the history of the vehicle and was able to pin the stolen vehicle against the building.

The three suspects ran away, and after a short foot chase, they were apprehended.

Detectives found the three had unlawfully entered several other jewelry stores in the Front Range. Several items of jewelry evidence totaling $7,000 were discovered from inside the car, and detectives are working with other agencies to piece cases together.

The suspects, Jayden Miller and Jesus Esparza, 18, were charged with Motor Vehicle Theft, Burglary, and Obstruction. A 15-year-old was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for one count of Murder Extreme Indifference and eight counts of Attempted Murder Extreme Indifference. The minor was also charged with Motor Vehicle Theft, Burglary, and Obstruction.

All three suspects were placed in detention facilities.
