(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment announced that Pueblo city and county residents will have the opportunity to drop off old waste tires at no cost on Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The recycling collection is being held at Pueblo RecycleWorks at 1595 Stockyard Road.
Each household may recycle up to nine tires at no cost during the event. Tires can include those for passenger cars, ATVs, and light trucks. All tires must be without rims. Tires with rims, tractor tires, semi truck tires, or tires covered in dirt or filled with water will not be accepted.
According to the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment, when tires are not properly recycled, they can create several problems for people and the environment. When it rains, tires can collect water and create a breeding ground for mosquitoes that may carry the West Nile Virus, and if a tire catches fire, it can be difficult to extinguish and expensive to clean up.
