(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — A 27-year-old and 31-year-old were killed in a crash on Marksheffel Road near Drennan Road on Tuesday, Jan. 23, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).
CSPD said officers originally responded just before 9 p.m. on Jan. 23 to Marksheffel just north of Drennan Road on a report of a three-car crash. When officers arrived, they found the driver and passenger in one of the cars, identified as 27-year-old Charles Polk and 31-year-old Billie Polk, dead.
The driver of a second car suffered life-threatening injuries, and the driver and passenger of the third car were treated at a hospital for non-life threatening injuries that night and released.
The investigation revealed that the car driven by Charles Polk was heading southbound on Marksheffel and attempting to pass cars by driving in the northbound lane when it hit a northbound car head-on. CSPD said the force of the collision threw the second car into the southbound lane, where it was hit by the third car heading southbound.
The El Paso County Coroner identified Charles and Billie Polk on Jan. 24.
CSPD said the death of Billie and Charles Polk were the 6th and 7th traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs of 2024. At the same time in 2023, there had been one fatality.
