UCCS Police launches new safety text feature

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) has launched ‘Prepared,’ a new feature allowing people on campus to text the police directly.

Prepared, which was launched on Nov. 1, allows dispatchers to receive and respond to text messages quickly and in real-time. With the sender’s consent, police can access the sender’s phone camera to survey the area and gather information.

“The new Prepared feature allows students to text the UCCS Police for assistance without needing to download an additional app,” said Shantelle Zimmer, Police Communication Manager. “While calling remains the preferred option in emergencies, this new text feature provides an alternative for students who may not be able to make a call. We always suggest students save our number in their phone for quick access in the event they need our assistance.”

The feature also helps police overcome language barriers, and provide an easier option for individuals with disabilities.

To use it, individuals can text UCCS Police at any time at (719)-255-3111
