(U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.) — The U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) will reopen to the public after being closed for two days following a fire on the southern end of the Academy property.
USAFA said in an update on Tuesday, Feb. 27 that the Academy would once again be open to the public starting at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28. This includes the Visitor Center, Planetarium and sporting venues. Hiking trails remain closed to all users until further notice.
The West Monument Creek Fire burning on USAFA property is 75% contained as of Tuesday morning. The area has been moved out of a Red Flag Warning due to ongoing precipitation and the increase in relative humidity. Fire crews remain on the scene to address any remaining areas of concern, USAFA said.
Community members are reminded to stay away from fire zones and avoid interfering with firefighting efforts. USAFA said some road closures remain in effect, and drivers should continue to follow directions from Security Forces.
