Victim from South Union Boulevard shooting identified

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A man killed in a shooting in the overnight hours of Friday, May 17 has been identified as 30-year-old Peter Espino by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) on May 17 at around 11:40 p.m. officers were called to a shooting near the 100 block of South Union Boulevard south of Pikes Peak Avenue. When officers arrived they found Espino suffering from at least one gunshot wound and he was declared dead on the scene.

Espino was identified on Monday, May 20 by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office. CSPD said while the coroner’s office will determine the cause and manner of death, Espino’s case is being investigated as a homicide.

At this time, police said a suspect is not in custody and detectives are continuing to investigate.

Police said this is the 18th homicide in Colorado Springs this year, at this time last year there were 11 homicides.
