Victim identified in southeast Colorado Springs homicide

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said detectives continue to investigate the shooting death of a Colorado Springs man from Saturday, March 9.

According to CSPD, on Saturday at around 3:22 p.m., officers were called to the 2600 block of Stonecrop Ridge Grove near South Circle Drive and Hancock Expressway about a shooting. When officers arrived, they found 62-year-old Leonard Johnson with an apparent gunshot wound and immediately rendered emergency medical aid, however, Johnson died of his injuries.

On Monday, March 11 Johnson was identified by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office and the case is being investigated as a homicide. CSPD said a suspect is not in custody but it is not believed to be a random act of violence and detectives continue to investigate the incident.

Johnson’s death is the sixth homicide of 2024, at this time last year there were four.
