Victim injured attempting to stop vehicle theft

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said a victim was injured trying to stop a suspect from taking their car in the afternoon hours of Monday, July 8.

According to CSPD, on Monday at around 4 p.m. the victim parked in front of a business in the 2100 block of Southgate Road, the victim left the vehicle running at the curb while they went into the business.

When the victim returned they found the suspect described as a white man in their 30s had entered the victim’s car and was starting to drive away. The victim tried to stop the suspect and CSPD said that the suspect’s reckless driving caused injury to the victim, the victim was taken from the scene for treatment.

The suspect left the area with the vehicle which police describe as a white 2013 Subaru Outback with Colorado plate ASDZ33. Police are asking the public that if they see the vehicle, not to attempt to make contact with the driver, notify dispatch at (719) 444-7000.

CSPD wants to remind the public that leaving a running vehicle unattended and unsecured is illegal.
