Victim’s foot shot during apparent road rage incident, police say

(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The Cañon City Police Department is looking for information on an apparent road rage incident that left a victim with a gunshot wound to his foot.

At around 2:20 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, Cañon City police officers were dispatched to the Love’s Truck Stop, located at 690 Doc Holiday, close to Highway 50, on reports of a man with a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, officers interviewed the victim and two passengers in the vehicle who reported a road rage incident.

According to witnesses, the incident occurred on Highway 50 between Dozier Avenue and Justice Center Road. Police say during the incident, a beige sedan pulled up next to a vehicle occupied by the victim and two other people, before a man in the other car allegedly took out a gun and shot at the victim’s vehicle. The victim, a man from Florissant, was shot in the foot. He is in the hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

The victim and his friends then drove to the gas station. The suspect vehicle was last seen southbound on Mackenzie Avenue from Highway 50. Witnesses said the person in the other car was a white man with blonde or gray facial hair who seemed to be between the ages of 60 and 65.

“Officers and detectives are diligently working this case, which is an active and ongoing
investigation and no further information is available at this time,” police said. “This incident appears to be an isolated event and there does not appear to be any ongoing danger to the public.”
