‘Violent’ man arrested after assaulting officers, EMS

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) arrested a man after he assaulted officers and emergency medical responders.

On Sunday, Nov. 10, officers were dispatched to a single-car crash on Powers Boulevard, near Hancock Expressway. Witnesses had informed dispatch the driver had a weapon and was walking away from his car.

Upon arrival, officers located the driver, identified as Joseph Lopez, who then attempted to assault officers when they tried to contact him CSPD said the man then allegedly became violent and fought with law enforcement.

The suspect assaulted three officers and one AMR paramedic.

CSPD officers were able to take Lopez into custody and was taken to a hospital, where he continued to be aggressive and tried to bite staff members according to the police department.

Officers also found an illegal firearm in the man’s car. CSPD says alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
