Chris Schade and his wife have been raising Alpacas for 21 years. They found that the animals, including the horses, are therapeutic and bring joy to visitors. They educate people about raising and caring for livestock and how alpaca fiber is processed to create finished wearable products like hats, gloves, socks, sweaters, and more.
Alpaca fiber insulates 30% better than sheep’s wool. It does not contain lanolin and is hypoallergenic.
“Our fiber farm stand, which started out with supplies and finished products from alpaca fleece, has grown to also feature wares from local artisans in needlecrafts and pottery to farm-fresh food for those who visit us in person,” Schade said. “Eggs, chicken, pork sausage, hams, and roasts, we invite you to visit in person to peruse the variety of items we and our locals have to offer.”

“Visitors can interact with the horses and alpacas by simply walking through the herds. Alternatively, they can brush, saddle up, and ride the horses in the round pen. They can also walk the alpacas in a smaller round pen through obstacles. And for those who prefer a more relaxed experience, they can just sit and enjoy the peaceful surroundings,” Schade explained.
