Volunteers needed in Colorado Springs for CityServe Day to help nonprofits

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Individuals and businesses across Colorado Springs will come together for CityServe Day on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3. Johnna Reeder Kleymeyer, President and CEO of the Colorado Springs Chamber & EDC and Gina Schmidt, Citywide Coordinator at COSILoveYou, joined FOX21 Morning News on Monday, April 28, to talk about the event.

“Many employers are giving their employees half-a-day or full-day-off to give back,” said Reeder Kleymeyer. There are more than 100 projects for volunteers to participate in and according to Schmidt, nearly 2,000 people have already signed up to pitch in. “It could be anything from pulling weeds, painting a wall, to writing a note of encouragement,” said Schmidt. “It’s really just whatever that nonprofit or school really feels like they need right now.”

Reeder Kleymeyer said the Chamber wanted to parter with COSILoveYou to help unite the region.

“We as the business community wanted to partner with the faith-based community to truly make a difference in Colorado Springs and El Paso County in a world where everyone is not getting along these days” said Reeder Kleymeyer. “We felt it was important for Colorado Springs to be a beacon of light and hope, that we can all work together when it comes to community issues and supporting those nonprofits that need us in our community.”

Schmidt said they are hoping to gather 300-400 more volunteers for this event. To learn more or to sign up to volunteer visit the Chamber or COSILoveYou’s websites.
