(PEYTON, Colo.) — Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for any information that leads to an arrest of the suspects responsible for the recent burglary of the National Mill Dog Rescue.
According to National Mill Dog Rescue (NMDR), in the early morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 8, multiple individuals dug through the property located in Peyton and stole “thousands of dollars” worth of items.
“They hotwired and drove off with our riding lawn mower that was only a little over a year old and walked off with our flatbed trailer, but not before loading it with many tools, our snow blower, and many other items,” NMDR stated in a video. “They even stole the sun shades we use to provide our dogs with shade and comfort during outdoor time in the warmer months.”
NMDR said that despite being fully insured, they anticipate a total loss because of their deductible. “We are heartbroken and disgusted by this heinous act,” NMDR wrote.
Despite the loss, staff and dogs were unharmed. Now, the Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for anyone who is able to give them information that leads to an arrest of “persons responsible for the burglary.”
“Through it all, our dogs remind us of a better way to be,” wrote NMDR. “They don’t steal, they don’t destroy—they only know to give love.”
