(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — The city of Manitou Springs announced on Tuesday, July 23, that a local beloved symbol of history has been restored to its original state.
The Wheeler Town Clock — originally donated by Jerome Wheeler in 1889 — was updated thanks to the dedication of the Public Works Department of Manitou Springs.
The clock combines timekeeping with artistic elegance, crowned by a statue of Hebe, the Greek goddess of youth and vitality, which represents the healing properties of Manitou’s mineral water. The clock has been updated with an atomic clock for reliable and precise timekeeping. Additionally, the water features of the clock have been restored.
The renovation preserves the landmark’s heritage while incorporating modern technology, reflecting Manitou Springs’ commitment to honoring its past while embracing the present.
