When did Southern Colorado last see snow on Thanksgiving?

(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — Thanksgiving is now less than a week away and you may be wondering what the region can generally expect. Usually, for this time of year, temperatures will be hanging out in the upper 40s with a few lower 50s.

This year, Thanksgiving is on the 28th, and a look back at records show that temperatures can get rather warm on that specific day. Colorado Springs’ three warmest years for the 28th were:

1998 – 73°

2014 – 69°

2011 – 67°

For Pueblo, temperatures have always been at least a few degrees warmer. The three warmest years for the 28th were:

2014 – 75°

1949 – 74°

1932 – 73°

Snow is usually a bit of a wild card around these parts. The El Nino and La Nina oscilation often influences our chances for rain and snow. This year we are in a La Nina transition, which historically can point to a calmer season of storm systems.

Colorado Springs, statistically speaking, doesn’t usually get snow on Thanksgiving. The last three years that the city has gotten snow on the holiday include 2015, 2008, and 2007.

For Pueblo, the same general pattern exists. Snow isn’t very common on the Turkey’s special day, but it does happen. The last three years that Pueblo has gotten snow on Thanksgiving include 2015, 2008, and 1993.

As far as this Thanksgiving goes, the forecast details remain uncertain but the bigger picture is starting to point to a more active week. As of Friday evening, the FOX21 Storm Team is watching for a potential snowy couple of days some time next week between Tuesday and Thursday. Be sure to stick with the FOX21 Storm Team for future updates as we get closer to the big day.
