When will warm temperatures end?

(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — It may be October, but Southern Colorado is still hanging on to summer-like warmth. Temperatures are climbing into the mid-80s in Colorado Springs and reaching the 90s in Pueblo this Friday, Oct. 3. That raises the question: when do we typically say goodbye to the hottest days of the year?

For Colorado Springs, the average last 80-degree day usually falls around Sept. 9. While we are past that mark, it is not completely out of the ordinary to see warm weather stretch further into the fall. In fact, the latest 80-degree day on record for the Springs came on Halloween in 2002.

Pueblo tells a slightly different story. The city is currently seeing 90-degree heat, but on average, the last 90-degree day arrives much earlier, around Aug. 21. That means Pueblo is running well above normal for early October. The latest 90-degree day on record occurred on Oct. 23, 2003.

So what does this mean going forward? While warm weather is holding on, fall is gradually taking over. October brings shorter days, less daylight, and a lower sun angle, which will steadily reduce the chances of hitting temperatures this high.

If you are a fan of the heat, enjoy it while it lasts, because cooler days are just around the corner!
