Wildlife officers investigating wolf death in northwest Colorado

DENVER (KDVR) — Wildlife officers are investigating the death of a gray wolf in northwest Colorado.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife said in a press release Friday that the agency was alerted to the death of a female gray wolf, 2512-BC, on Thursday. The agency did not specify where the wolf died.

CPW confirmed that the wolf was part of the group of 15 that was brought to Colorado from British Columbia as part of reintroduction efforts.

“As a federally listed species under the Endangered Species Act, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is investigating,” CPW said in the release.

The agency said the investigation will include a necropsy to determine the cause of death, and no further information was immediately available.

A spokesperson for CPW confirmed to FOX31 that this marks the fourth death of a wolf that came from British Columbia this year, and three wolves that came from Oregon died last year.
