Woman killed in Monument hit-and-run identified

(MONUMENT, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) has released the identity of a woman who was killed in a hit-and-run in Monument on Monday, Nov. 4.

According to EPSO, 47-year-old Kristy Kerst was hit and killed just before noon on Monday by a man driving a dark-colored Chrysler minivan at the McDonald’s on Baptist Road. The man left the scene after the incident, and Kerst was pronounced dead after initial attempts to save her were unsuccessful.

The minivan is described as having a light-colored metal trim on the sides, with no front license plate and may have a handicapped placard hanging from the rearview mirror. The van has silver stock rims, significant damage to the front passenger bumper and side, and may have red paint scuff marks on the front passenger side.

The man appeared to have a female passenger with him in the van, EPSO said.
