Woman trying to make ends meet gets car stolen at work

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On March 11, a Special Kids Special Families employee had her car stolen from the parking lot of her work.

Special Kids Special Families helps foster kids find homes. The organization is filled with big-hearted people selflessly giving to the community, and now one is left with a devastating loss to fill.

“I hate to put the word devastating- devastating on it, but that’s really how I feel violated. I feel like nothing is safe, and it’s just really, really hurtful,” said Teresa Reed, whose car was stolen.

Reed is a grandma and avid churchgoer who was very proud that she was able to take out a loan to get her family’s only car to get her not only to and from work and church but also get her two-year-old grandson to doctor’s appointments for his brain cyst.

Reed said that she had to “Pay the car note on my vehicle, pay the rent and keep food in the house, and unfortunately, I had to not pay my car insurance.”

Reed is now left with car payments but no car, and this isn’t the first time this has happened to an employee at Special Kids Special Families.

The Program Director for Special Kids Special Families, Martina Porter, commented, “This is the second time this happened.”

Reed wanted to share her story in hopes that it will stop it from happening to someone else, commenting, “The police did suggest to me that when we get another vehicle to invest in a steering lock, that seems to be a big deterrent for these people who are doing this stuff.”
