Woodland Park shooting occurred during child custody exchange

(WOODLAND PARK, Colo.) — The Woodland Park Police Department has released more information on the fatal shooting that occurred on Friday, Nov. 29.

At around 5:30 p.m., on Friday, Woodland Park PD responded to a shooting at the City Market grocery store parking lot after receiving a 911 call. According to the leading agency, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), there was a physical altercation during a child custody exchange.

The biological father of the child, 28-year-old Luis Morales, threatened the child’s mother’s boyfriend, a 29-year-old man per witnesses. The CBI says the boyfriend pulled a gun and fired a single shot hitting Morales.


UPDATE: Victim of Woodland Park parking lot shooting dies

Life-saving measures were performed on Morales, but he succumbed to his injuries and died at a hospital in Colorado Springs.

The 29-year-old stayed on scene and is cooperating with investigators according to CBI. He has been released pending the outcome of the investigation.

The CBI is leading the case with assistance from the Woodland Park Police Department and the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
