Work begins on Woodmen Road near I-25

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The City of Colorado Springs is planning to start construction work to adjust the center median lane on Woodmen Road east of I-25.

The project will impact Woodmen Road between Campus Drive and I-25 and will start later in the week of May 13.

The City said the project will reconfigure the concrete center median, adjust traffic signal heads and street signage, and replace roadway markings. The City hopes the new configuration will decrease traffic congestion for motorists heading westbound on Woodmen Road as they access southbound I-25.

The project will extend the left turn lanes to increase the queuing space by removing one of the two left turn lanes off eastbound Woodmen Road to northbound Campus Drive.

During construction, one lane in each direction on Woodmen Road will close, leaving two through lanes open in each direction. Construction will not impact traffic accessing I-25 in either direction, according to the City.

The project is expected to be finished by the end of June.
