Young woman killed in Security-Widefield train crash

(SECURITY-WIDEFIELD, Colo.) — A 26-year-old woman was found dead at the scene of the crash between a train and a vehicle in Security-Widefield on Monday, Jan. 20, according to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP).

According to CSP, the woman was driving a Mitsubishi Outlander westbound on Main Street around 3:30 p.m. toward an active railroad crossing. Traffic was stopping at the intersection, as the crossing gates were down and the lights were flashing.

CSP said that the driver didn’t stop and hit the crossing arms before striking the second and third train cars. The Outlander rotated and pushed off onto the northeast side of Main St., and the driver was ejected from the SUV.

According to CSP, no charges are being pursued.
