(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) responded to a dirt bike crash involving a 10-year-old in Archuleta County on Thursday, June 6.
Troopers were called to investigate a fatal crash at the intersection of Forest Service Road 631 and Forest Service Road 640 near Pagosa Springs at around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
CSP said initial reports indicate that a 10-year-old girl wearing a helmet and protective gear was riding a dirt bike south on Forest Service Road 640 when she apparently drove through a stop sign and failed to negotiate a sharp turn onto the eastbound lane of Forest Service Road 631.
According to CSP, a Toyota Tacoma on Forest Service Road 631, driven by an 18-year-old man, collided with the dirt bike. The driver was not injured and remained at the scene.
Troopers said bystanders performed life-saving measures before EMS arrived to take over, but the 10-year-old died of her injuries.
CSP continues to investigate the crash and will have more information at a later date.
