DENVER (KDVR) — A 14-year-old died after what officials called a “serious incident” while snowboarding at Keystone.

FOX31 received a statement from Keystone Resort confirming that a 14-year-old from Monument was taken to the Keystone Medical Center after a serious incident on Sunday, March 2.

“Keystone Resort, Keystone Ski Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest’s family and friends,” said Chris Sorensen, vice president and general manager at Keystone Resort.

According to the resort, the Keystone Ski Patrol responded to the snowboarder on a beginner trail on Dercum Mountain.

The 14-year-old was identified as Levi Inama, a student at Palmer Ridge High School. The district said students are in mourning and taking steps to support his family.

Dercum Mountain sits at 11,640 feet and features long, groomed beginner slopes and rolling intermediate runs, according to the resort’s website.

It is unclear at this time how the incident occurred, and if the boarder was wearing a helmet.
