24-year-old sentenced in 2019 sexual assault in Pueblo

(PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.) — A 24-year-old man will spend 90 days in jail and serve four years probation after the 2019 sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl.

According to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), the sexual assault happened in June 2019, though the victim reported the assault in 2022 when she turned 18. PCSO began investigating, and charges were filed against the suspect, Colton Sims, in 2023.

Sims was arrested in November 2023 and he has been out on bond awaiting sentencing. Sims entered a guilty plea and will begin serving the jail sentence in January 2025. In addition, he will be required to pay restitution and undergo “intense sexual assault treatment.”

“This incident was more than two years old when our detectives began the investigation,” said Pueblo County Sheriff David Lucero. “They did a great job working this case that ultimately led to the arrest of the suspect, a guilty plea, and some matter of justice for this victim.”
