(FORT CARSON, Colo.) — The Fort Carson 4th Infantry Division Band is preparing to spread holiday cheer with music throughout Southern Colorado this month.
Holiday tunes such as Jingle Bells, O Hanukkah, Silent Night, and more will be heard throughout the Pikes Peak region and in some parts of Denver with a jazzy twist performed by the brass quintet.
“December is the busiest time of year for any musician, especially army bandsmen,” Band Commander CW2 Michael Becker said. “So for us, this is a time for us to get out into our community and really spread some holiday cheer.”
The 4th Infantry Band gets more opportunities than other Fort Carson soldiers to participate in community outreach initiatives, with busy times typically in March and April for Music in Our Schools Month and Month of the Military Child, respectively. However, November and December offer fun performances and opportunities for bandsmen and audience members alike.
“As the leader of the ensemble, the biggest challenge is just time management,” SSG Jamie DeLorme said. “Trying to figure out when we can fit all of the rehearsals in for these concerts that are coming up, plus all of our other soldier duties that we have to take care of too.”
With over 60 performances on the horizon for the band, time management is a skill required to fulfill an ambitious repertoire in multiple locations. To do this, the band will split into smaller groups, like the brass quintet, to be able to perform in more places and spread more cheer throughout the Pikes Peak region.
The next performance will be on Dec. 8 at Carson Middle School, Fort Carson at 6 p.m.
