Fire sparks in El Paso County near Elbert County border

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — A fire started on Monday, March 5, in El Paso County, near the southwestern border of Elbert County, according to the Elbert County Office of Emergency Management (OEM).

OEM is currently monitoring the fire but states that no actions are required at this time. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) told FOX21 the fire has been knocked down and crews are continuing to monitor hotspots.

EPSO said a grassfire broke out in the extreme northeast part of El Paso County around 11:30 a.m. Simla, Peyton, and Edison fire units were initially dispatched to the area and later EPSO sent crews to help with the fire.

A voluntary evacuation was issued for the areas around the fire.
