Downtown Summer Fest celebrates Team USA & Paris Olympics

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Saturday, July 27, the Downtown Summer Fest celebrated Team USA and the Paris Olympics while giving guests a chance to join in the fun with activities, live coverage of Olympic events, and meet and greets with Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

The event kicked off with the Official Torch Relay, presented by Olympic City USA, where Olympians, Paralympians, and community officials carried a torch across the Park Union Bridge and lit the cauldron. Olympic Champion, Dominique Dawes, a member of the 1996 Magnificent Seven Gymnastics Team, was then available to sign autographs.

Fans cheered their favorite athletes on as they watched the Paris Games live on a giant outdoor screen, while others got to see the action live with demonstrations by USA Fencing athletes and a handball team. Young aspiring athletes got to take part and improve their skills during a basketball clinic.
