(COLORADO SPRINGS) — It is time for Back to School shopping but for some, it can be an extra burden. The Mack Foundation along with Kings and Queens Barbershop and Salon helped out by giving away backpacks and free haircuts on Sunday, July 28.
The event was held at 1833 South Academy Boulevard on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. and gave out 200 backpacks, which Alize Mack, CEO and Founder of the Mack Foundation said took 30 minutes.
The event is a way to give back to the community. Mack said she started the event when she saw the southern area was beginning to be forgotten. “I’m born and raised down here. I’m a native [of] Colorado Springs. And throughout the years, I just started seeing kind of the down south area was kind of being forgotten. So I wanted to pour back into down south, bring some resources.”
“I grew up the same way, so I know some parents are not able to satisfy their kid where they really want to, but that’s why we’re here to help,” said Prentice Wilson, the owner and barber, at Kings and Queens Barbershop and Salon.
