One injured in morning crash between vehicle and scooter

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A crash between a scooter and a vehicle in the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 17, left one person seriously injured, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

CSPD reported that officers were dispatched to the intersection of Chelton Road and East Fountain Boulevard around 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, where a small electric scooter had collided with a vehicle.

According to CSPD, the scooter had been traveling southbound on Chelton and approaching the intersection at a time when there was no visibility due to poor lighting. An SUV was traveling northbound and making a left turn and collided with the scooter in the intersection, said CSPD.

The driver of the scooter was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, and the driver of the SUV remained on the scene. No impairment or speed is suspected at this time. The intersection was closed for about an hour while the Major Crash team investigated.
