The Nebraska State Patrol reported it located the homicide suspect in Dawson County Sunday morning, with a passenger in the car having a medical emergency. The Nebraska State Patrol said the suspect was considered armed and dangerous, and troopers began a pursuit at about 9:25 a.m.

The agency said the suspect vehicle refused to stop and fled north into Gothenburg, where troopers successfully deployed tire deflation devices and the vehicle stopped in a ditch. The driver and passenger reportedly refused to exit the vehicle, prompting crisis negotiations.

After numerous attempts to make contact, troopers said they saw the female passenger appearing to experience a medical emergency. The first responders approached the vehicle and removed both the driver and passenger, who were both non-responsive.

Officers administered Narcan, an opioid reversal drug, to the driver and passenger. The passenger was taken to Gothenburg Health Hospital, and troopers said she was pronounced dead there. The driver was identified as Augustine Vega, 36, of Colorado Springs, and troopers said he was flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney where he remains.

No officers fired their weapons during the incident, and at least one firearm was located inside the vehicle. The incident remains under investigation.

FOX31’s Alliyah Sims spoke with neighbors at the Vine Street scene, who noted they’re only about a mile from the University of Denver’s campus.

“Students do student stuff, but generally, we don’t have anything terribly shocking and violent,” one neighbor told Sims.

Another neighbor told Sims that the home is rented by five or so young adults.

At about 4 p.m., the agency said that an adult male suspect was taken into custody in connection with the stabbing. The agency said that investigators believe the suspect and victim knew each other, but the circumstances surrounding the homicide were still under investigation.

The agency did not provide an update on the victim’s injuries.
