Mayor Mobolade released from hospital following pneumonia diagnosis

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Mayor has been discharged from the hospital following a two-night stay for pneumonia and a blocked artery.

According to a press release from the City of Colorado Springs, Mayor Yemi Mobolade was released on Thursday, June 5 from UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central after initially being admitted for severe symptoms from a cold. Tests conducted in the hospital then revealed a more concerning issue.

“What started as a cold quickly escalated to a trip to the ER, where I was diagnosed with double pneumonia,” the Mayor said on his Facebook page. “That alone would have been enough but then came the real shock: tests revealed a major blockage in my main artery. I had zero symptoms. If not for the pneumonia, we would never have discovered it.”

The Mayor said he underwent a “minimally invasive” procedure Wednesday morning for the blocked artery, and he expressed his gratitude for the medical staff who attended to him during his hospitalization.

“I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the excellence and compassion of the medical professionals at Memorial Hospital who went above and beyond to get their mayor back on his feet,” said Mayor Mobolade. “Your skill and care were nothing short of extraordinary. I am walking out of this experience with a deeper appreciation for our healthcare workers and all of the everyday heroes and public servants that keep our city strong.”
