State senator from Pueblo will not seek re-election

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — Colorado State Senator Nick Hinrichsen, who serves SD-3 in Pueblo, announced he will not be seeking re-election to spend more time with his family.

In a statement released on Thursday, June 5, Senator Hinrichsen said he is proud of the work he has done over the last three and a half years. The Senator said his son would be entering college in the fall and be a graduate at the end of the next term for SD-3. In order to spend more time with family, Hinrichsen will not seek re-election and instead transition back to a more traditional work schedule.

“Pueblo has no shortage of strong leaders, including a deep bench of emerging young professionals. I’m confident that the next senator for SD-3 will be an effective voice for Southern Colorado,” wrote Senator Hinrichsen.

Senator Hinrichsen said he will continue to stay deeply involved in issues that impact the state of Colorado.
